Γιε is the vocative form of γιος, the modern Greek word for son. Γιος developed from Byzantine γυιός, itself a reshaping of Ancient Greek υἱός. The origin of ancient υἱός is uncertain, and linguists have not established secure cognates for it outside Greek, despite its surface resemblance to English son.
