Etymology
Θησαυρός comes from Ancient Greek thēsauros, meaning a store, hoard, or treasure chamber. Tradition links it to the root of tithēmi, to put or place, since a treasure is something set aside and stored. Some linguists doubt this connection and suspect a Pre-Greek substrate origin for parts of the word. The Ancient Greek form passed into Latin as thesaurus and from there into many European languages.
