Word family
Etymology
Κλείνομαι is the mediopassive voice of κλείνω, the modern continuation of Ancient Greek κλείω, meaning to close or shut. The root goes back to a Proto-Indo-European word for a hook or bolt used to fasten a door. The same root gave Greek κλειδί (key) and a family of Latin words built on the idea of closing.
