Etymology

Κούρσα came into Greek from Italian corsa, meaning a run or a race. Corsa in turn traces to Latin cursus, the noun of the verb currere, to run. The same Italian family gave Greek the word κουρσάρος, a corsair or pirate, since raiders were once described as making a corsa along the coast.
