Etymology

λίγο is the neuter singular form of the adjective λίγος, meaning small or few, used adverbially to mean a little. It descends from Ancient Greek λίγος/ὀλίγος, an old word for small or scanty that already appears in Homer. The neuter form became fixed as the standard adverb of small quantity in Modern Greek.
