Etymology
Μπισκότο entered Greek from Italian biscotto. The Italian word goes back to Latin bis coctus, meaning cooked twice, a reference to the old baking method of drying the dough with a second pass through the oven. Greek adapted the Italian ending to fit its own neuter noun pattern in -ο.
