Etymology
Μπροστινός is built from the adverb μπροστά, meaning 'in front' or 'ahead', plus the adjectival suffix -ινός, which turns place or time words into descriptive adjectives, as in πρωινός from πρωί ('morning'). Μπροστά itself comes from Medieval Greek έμπροστα, a worn-down form of Ancient Greek έμπροσθεν ('in front of'), made of εν- ('in') and πρόσθεν ('before, in front'), which relates to the preposition πρό ('before'). Πρό traces back to the PIE root *per-, meaning 'forward' or 'through'.
