Μπρος is the everyday spoken form of εμπρός, which comes from Ancient Greek ἔμπροσθεν, a compound of ἐν ("in") and πρόσθεν ("before, in front"), itself built on πρό ("before, forward"). Casual speech dropped the initial vowel over time, turning εμπρός into μπρος. The root πρό traces back to the Proto-Indo-European root *per-, meaning "forward, through," which also gave English "fore" and "for," and Latin "pro."
