Ναυτία comes from ναύτης, meaning sailor, plus the abstract-noun suffix -ία. In ancient Greek it named the sickness sailors felt from a ship's motion. The word ναύτης itself derives from ναῦς, ship. Latin borrowed the Greek word as nausea, which passed directly into English.
