Etymology
A modern loanword borrowed into Greek (probably via Italian 'parco' or French 'parc') from Medieval Latin 'parricus' meaning 'enclosure, fenced-off land'. The Latin word is of uncertain origin, possibly Germanic or pre-Latin. Across European languages the sense shifted from an enclosed game-preserve to a public green space, and Greek adopted this later meaning.
