Παρουσία comes from the verb πάρειμι, itself built from the prefix παρά (beside, near) and the verb εἰμί (to be). The noun uses the feminine participle stem of εἰμί, οὖσα (being), plus the abstract-noun suffix -ία. So the word originally meant something like the state of being beside or being present. In the Greek New Testament it also became the standard term for Christ's future arrival, the Second Coming.
