Word family
Etymology
Περί descends directly from Ancient Greek περί, a preposition meaning around or concerning. It is one of the oldest prepositions in the language and appears already in Homeric Greek with both spatial and topical senses. In Modern Greek it survives mainly in formal, legal, and literary registers rather than everyday speech.
