Etymology
The word entered Greek from Italian servitore, meaning servant or attendant. Italian servitore itself comes from the verb servire, to serve, rooted in Latin servus. Greek adapted the Italian ending -ore into the native masculine noun ending -ος, giving σερβιτόρος. The feminine σερβιτόρα was formed later inside Greek on the same pattern.
