Etymology
Κιλό entered Greek in the nineteenth century as a clipped borrowing of the French kilogramme, itself built from Greek khilioi (χίλιοι, thousand) plus gramme. So the word left Greek as a root, grew into a French scientific coinage, and came back as a short everyday loan. Today it functions as an ordinary Greek noun with its own declension.
