Etymology
Αναγκάστηκα is the first-person singular aorist passive of αναγκάζω, meaning to force or compel. That verb is built on the ancient noun ανάγκη, meaning necessity, compulsion, or fate. The origin of ανάγκη itself is debated among linguists, and some scholars treat it as a word of pre-Greek substrate origin rather than one with a clear Indo-European root. For that reason no secure Proto-Indo-European root can be given.
