Etymology
τραπεζικός is built from τράπεζα, the Greek word for bank, plus the adjective-forming suffix -ικός, meaning of or pertaining to. τράπεζα itself goes back to ancient τετράπεζα, a contraction of τετρα- (four) and πέζα (foot), literally a four-footed table. Money changers in antiquity worked at such tables, and the word later narrowed to mean bank. The final -ικός simply turns the noun into an adjective, of the bank.
