Etymology
Σκηνικός is built on σκηνή, the ancient Greek word for a tent or the wooden stage-building behind the acting area in a theater, joined with the common adjectival suffix -ικός, meaning "pertaining to". Over time σκηνή narrowed in theatrical contexts to mean the stage itself, and σκηνικός came to describe anything belonging to that space: lighting, props, design, or presence. The same root, filtered through Latin scaena, gave English "scene" and "scenic".
