Etymology

The colloquial deictic 'τος' belongs to the pointing set 'τος / τη / το', used to single someone or something out in speech. It continues the ancient Greek demonstrative-article stem *to- (seen in the neuter article 'τό' and the Doric masculine nominative 'τός'). In everyday speech it most often fuses with the presentative 'να' to give 'νάτος' ('there he is!'). It is thus a deictic particle, not a true noun.
