Etymology
Modern Greek φάρσα is a loanword from Italian farsa ('comic interlude, farce'), which goes back to Medieval/Vulgar Latin farsa and ultimately to Latin farcīre 'to stuff, cram' — comic material was originally 'stuffed' into religious plays. The everyday sense of 'prank, practical joke' developed alongside the theatrical 'farce' meaning. Because it entered Greek as a borrowing, its deeper root is traced through the Latin source rather than inherited.
