Etymology

Romanian borrowed "accepta" from French "accepter" during the 19th-century modernization of its vocabulary, when many Latinate and French terms replaced or supplemented older Slavic-influenced words. The French verb itself descends from Latin "acceptare", a frequentative form of "accipere", meaning to receive or take. "Accipere" is built from "ad-" (toward) and "capere" (to take, seize).
