Etymology

Acuza entered Romanian from French accuser, part of the wave of French and Latin borrowings that reshaped Romanian vocabulary in the 19th century. French accuser goes back to Latin accusare, a compound of ad- (toward) and causa (cause, legal case). The Latin verb originally meant to bring a legal case against someone, and Romanian kept both that narrow legal sense and a broader everyday sense of blaming.
