Etymology

Acuzație entered Romanian in the nineteenth century as part of a wave of French and Latin borrowings that reshaped the modern literary language. It traces to Latin accusatio, accusationem, itself built from the verb accusare, meaning to call to account. Romanian already had a native verb, acuza, for the action, and later added acuzație to name the act or statement itself, on the French model accusation.
