Acuzat is the past participle of a acuza, a verb Romanian borrowed from French accuser in the nineteenth century, as part of a wave of Latinate vocabulary that reshaped the language during that period. French accuser itself descends from Latin accusare, built from the prefix ad- and causa, meaning a legal case or cause. The Romanian participle ending -at reflects the Latin past participle suffix -atus.
