Etymology
The verb comes from the Romanian noun "dar" (gift), joined with the verb-forming suffix "-ui". "Dar" itself was borrowed from Old Church Slavonic "darŭ" (gift), a word built on a Proto-Slavic root that goes back to the same Indo-European base found in Latin "donum" and Greek "dōron". So "dărui" literally means "to make a gift of".
