Etymology
Afla descends from Latin afflare, which meant to blow toward something or to breathe on it. In spoken Latin the verb drifted from that literal sense to a figurative one: coming upon something, as a scent carried on the wind leads a hunter to what he seeks. Romanian kept only this extended meaning, so afla now means to find out or discover, with no trace left of the original blowing sense.
