Etymology
Anumit is built from the verb a numi, "to name" or "to call," with the old intensifying prefix a-. Its literal sense was "named," but over time it drifted to mean "a particular one I have in mind but will not name," the same shift English "certain" made from "sure" to "some specific but unstated." A numi itself comes from Latin nominare, "to name," from nomen, "name."
