Etymology

Pauză came into Romanian from French pause, which traces back to Latin pausa and, before that, Greek pausis, meaning a stopping or ceasing. The Greek noun comes from the verb pauein, to stop. Romanian added the standard feminine noun ending -ă to fit the borrowed root.
