Etymology
The feminine form of the adjective "stâng" (left). Its origin is disputed among Romanian etymologists. Unlike most other Romance languages, Romanian does not use a descendant of Latin "sinister" for this meaning, and some linguists place "stâng" among the words that may come from the pre-Roman Balkan substrate rather than from Latin.
