Etymology
Avere is the noun formed from the Romanian verb a avea, meaning to have. The verb traces back to Latin habere, which had already lost its intervocalic b in spoken Latin, giving a form close to avere. Romanian turned this infinitive into a plain noun, so avere literally means the having, and by extension what one has: wealth or property.
