Etymology
Romanian borrowed "partid" in the 19th century, during its wave of French- and German-influenced modernization, from French "parti" and German "Partei". Both of those trace back to Latin "partire", to divide, itself from "pars, partis", a part or share. The political sense fits that root well: a party is one organized part of a larger body politic.
