Etymology
Confuz entered Romanian as a learned borrowing from French confus, itself from Latin confusus, the past participle of confundere, 'to pour together, mix up.' It arrived during the nineteenth century, when Romanian absorbed large numbers of French and Latin words to modernize its vocabulary. The final -s of the French model became -z in Romanian, matching the voiced sound French speakers give that letter, a pattern seen in other borrowings of the same era.
