Etymology
Confuzie entered Romanian from French confusion during the nineteenth-century wave of Latin-Romance borrowing that modernized Romanian vocabulary. The French word traces to Latin confusio, confusionem, a noun built on confundere, meaning to pour together or mix. Romanian regularly reshapes French words ending in -sion into a native-looking -zie ending, as seen also in decizie from décision.
