Etymology
Poreclă entered Romanian from Slavic, most likely from a form close to Bulgarian pryakor, meaning a mocking or descriptive name added to someone's given name. Romanian absorbed many everyday words from South Slavic speakers during centuries of contact in the Balkans. The word is now fully naturalized and takes regular Romanian feminine noun endings.
