Etymology
Romanian "cafea" is a loanword, not an inherited Indo-European term. It entered the language through Ottoman Turkish "kahve" during centuries of Ottoman political and cultural contact with the Romanian principalities. Turkish "kahve" itself derives from Arabic "qahwa". The same Arabic root spread across Europe through different routes, giving related but not identical forms in other languages.
