Etymology
Cască entered Romanian from French casque ("helmet"), which was itself adapted from Spanish casco. Casco originally meant "skull" or "potsherd" and is tied to the verb cascar ("to crack, break"), from Latin quassare ("to shake violently"), a frequentative of quatere ("to shake"). The Romanian word is therefore a fairly late borrowing rather than an inherited Latin term.
