Etymology
Cedat is the past participle of a ceda, a verb Romanian borrowed from French céder in the nineteenth century as part of a wave of Latinate vocabulary. Céder itself traces to Latin cedere, meaning to go, withdraw, or yield. The ending -at is the standard past participle suffix for Romanian verbs of this conjugation class, the same one seen in lucrat or dat.
