Etymology

Concepe comes from Latin concipere, a compound of con- (together, thoroughly) and capere (to take, to grasp). The Latin verb already carried both senses still present today: to take in mentally, forming an idea or plan, and to take in physically, becoming pregnant. Romanian inherited the word directly from Latin, alongside its close relative percepe (to perceive), built the same way.
