Etymology
Corespunzător is the adjective built from the verb a corespunde, meaning to correspond or to match. That verb is formed with the prefix co- (with, together, from Latin cum-) attached to the stem of a spune (to say), the same stem that gives a răspunde (to answer). Romanian lost the classical Latin verb respondere and rebuilt its meaning around spune, so corespunzător literally traces back to a phrase like saying together with. The ending -ător is a common Romanian suffix that turns a verb into a descriptive adjective, roughly matching English -ing or -ent.
