Etymology
Coroană descends from Latin corona, meaning wreath or crown, which Latin itself borrowed from Greek korōnē. The word passed into Romanian through ordinary inheritance from spoken Latin, the same path that gave the other Romance languages their words for crown. Its core sense, a circular object worn on the head, later extended to tree tops, dental work, and the names of several European currencies.
