Etymology
Părinți is the plural of părinte, which comes from Latin parens, parentem, meaning parent. The word passed directly into Romanian from spoken Latin, unlike many Romance languages where the descendant word shifted toward meaning relative rather than parent. The final consonant of the stem shifts from t to ț before the plural i, a regular Romanian sound change.
