Etymology
Crește descends from Latin crescere, meaning to grow or increase. The Latin verb carried an inchoative infix, -sc-, marking a process just beginning or underway, which Romanian preserved in the -ște ending of the infinitive a crește. The same Latin root gave French croître, Italian crescere, and Spanish crecer.
