Etymology
Deci formed inside Romanian by fusing the preposition de ("of, from") with the pronoun ce ("what"). The two words merged into one and their meaning drifted from a literal sense toward marking a logical consequence, much as English so drifted from a manner adverb to a connective. Today deci works mainly as a discourse marker that introduces a conclusion, and in casual speech it also serves as a filler word at the start of a sentence.
