Etymology
Deschide comes from Latin disclaudere, a combination of the reversative prefix dis- and claudere, "to close." Romanian kept this pair intact: a închide, "to close," from Latin inclaudere, and a deschide, "to open," literally "to un-close." This is unusual among Romance languages, since Italian and Spanish use aperire-based verbs (aprire, abrir) for "open" rather than a negated form of "close."
