Etymology
Deveni comes from Latin devenire, a compound of the prefix de- and venire, "to come." In Latin the verb meant "to arrive at" or "to come to a place," and this sense of arriving at a point shifted over time into arriving at a new state or condition. Romanian kept the verb through direct descent from Latin, alongside its sibling a veni, "to come."
