Etymology

Eveniment entered Romanian from French événement in the 19th century, part of a wave of French borrowings that reshaped Romanian's formal vocabulary. Événement itself descends from Latin evenire, meaning to come out or to happen, built from the prefix e- (out) and venire (to come). The word thus originally pictured an outcome as something that comes forth.
