Etymology
Dezamăgit is built from the negative prefix dez- (from Latin dis-, marking reversal or undoing) attached to amăgi, an older Romanian verb meaning to deceive or delude, itself of Slavic origin. To dezamăgi someone is literally to strip away the deception or illusion that pleased them, and what remains is disappointment. The final -t marks the past participle, which here doubles as an ordinary adjective.
