Etymology
Trădător comes from the Romanian verb a trăda, to betray, which descends from Latin tradere, to hand over or surrender. The agentive suffix -tor, also of Latin origin, turns the verb into a word for the one who performs the act: a betrayer. The formation echoes the Latin noun traditor, the ancestor of the English word traitor, though Romanian built its own version from the native verb rather than borrowing the Latin noun directly. The word has kept this shape, largely unchanged, for centuries.
