Etymology

Direcție came into Romanian from French direction, which itself descends from Latin directio, the noun of action from dirigere, meaning to set straight or guide. Dirigere is built from the prefix dis- and the verb regere, to rule or keep straight. The underlying sense has stayed remarkably stable: pointing something along a straight, intended line.
