Enervat is the past participle of a enerva, borrowed from French énerver. The French verb comes from Latin enervare, meaning to remove the sinews, to weaken. Over time French and Romanian both shifted the sense from physical weakening to the mental state of being worn down by irritation, so enervat now means annoyed rather than weakened.
