Etymology
Romanian borrowed "rechin" from French "requin" (shark) during the nineteenth century, when Romanian absorbed a large number of French words as part of its modernization and re-Latinization. The origin of the French word itself is not settled among etymologists, so no further root should be assumed. The Romanian form simply adapted the French spelling and pronunciation to Romanian phonetics.
